Should You Include a Personal GitHub in Your Portfolio or LinkedIn Page?

github cat

How many people are viewing your repo? What do they think about your code? Does your personal GitHub exist only for your hobby? We can generate many questions in our heads, but what matters? I’ll try to find the answer.

I’m not sure that many people want to open your GitHub. Somebody open your GitHub account to get to know you better, or maybe they compare your experience with somebody else. After saying those main reasons, we can easily go to the next question.

They will never analyze your work as you think, but you could hide some parts for private views as your old, very simple, and non-interesting repos. Professional photographs follow this tip when they don’t show bad and boring photos in their portfolio. What is the main reason for that? People don’t spend much time finding the best gems in your profile.

Not everything is as simple as it seems. If you hide many repositories, people cannot see your progress and path in computer science or solving problems. What is better? Nobody knows.

Many of us work in IT, but what if we have a hobby in another IT field? Can that experience be relevant to other people? To HR? Sometimes, people can get the wrong idea about this, and think that you cannot have any skills for they job.

I don’t have a strong opinion about adding the GitHub page or not, but I’m sure I can easily find people who are excited and disappointed about my GitHub for different reasons.
